At ORIX NZ, we provide our people with two volunteer days annually to support the communities we live and work in. Being on our own journey to a more sustainable future, we were keen to find volunteer opportunities that aligned with both our commitment to the community and the environment.
Fair Food NZ was a great option. They are making a remarkable impact by rescuing surplus food, preventing it from reaching landfills, and providing meals to families in need.
To date, Fair Food NZ have rescued 1,974,520 Kgs of food, distributed 5,641,486 meals into the community and saved 5235 tonnes of toxic greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere!
Recently we had some of our team head over to the Fair Food headquarters in Avondale. We spent the day chopping and vacuum-sealing tons of bananas for freezing and assisted with sorting through fresh produce deliveries. Nothing went to waste as food was sorted by either fit to eat, cook or compost!
We thoroughly enjoyed being part of the team for the day and we can’t wait to go back!
